WELCOME, COMMUNITY CONNECTION & MEDITATION - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
As humans, our universal language is movement, sensation and breath. While somatics enhances our capacity to listen to and speak this primal language, yoga can offer the container and map to utilise this primal language to connect ourselves to everyone and everything.
Our deepest wish and belief is that we can, through our intention, expand our capacity to meet and be met. Through the intersection of yoga and somatics, we can be guided home into ourselves, and arrive fully into the depths of what is present for us, in every moment. This inward is what empowers us to rise above and transform the pain and challenges in our life, to mend disconnection, and ultimately feel a belonging to ourself, to community, to the world.
It is your birthright to fully be you and experience a felt sense of belonging. There are institutions and systems that wish to usurp that power. The Embodied Yoga Summit is an invitation for you to explore the depths of your body as a rich inner landscape of experience, and a mirror to the expansive outer landscape of life. I welcome you on this journey.

SAFE, ACCESSIBLE AND EFFECTIVE SPINAL MOVEMENTS FOR HEALTH, HAPPINESS AND LONGEVITY - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
In this session I will show you ways to energise, nourish and strengthen your body while developing blissful, grounded calmness. I will show you a safe, accessible and effective way to move actively and fluidly from your core while initially allowing your body to breathe for you, and later develop breath-control. I will also show you special types of core stabilisation for the whole body that can stabilise and nourish your joints and muscles, improve circulation, prevent and heal injuries, and relieve physical pain. I emphasise moving actively from your core (the Kanda in India and the Dantien in China), rather than locking your core, which allows you to develop fitness and internal health by using simple spinal movements and breathing into an abdomen firmed through posture. I will also demonstrate techniques to help improve the digestion of food, absorption of nutrients, elimination of waste and stored toxins, your immune system, as well the state of your hormones and the health of your reproductive system.
If you practice with me, I can help you to:
Improve flexibility without feeling intense stretch
Improve strength without feeling tense or stressed
Become more relaxed without needing to be completely passive
Improve your energy levels without having to breathe more than normal
Promote circulation without needing to make your heart beat faster
Improve the intelligence of your body cells without having to over-think
Satiate your appetite and feel nourished without having to eat so much
Feel rested and rejuvenated without having to sleep so much

ECOLOGY OF THE SUBTLE BODY - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
On Earth Day 2020 we commit to conserving the precious prana (vital air) we are given. We believe that the life force of the body is inseparable from the life force of the planet. This lecture and meditation explores how the ecosystem of the subtle body —the breath, bloodstream and thought waves-- is interdependent with all of nature. We will see how the vibratory rhythms of the plants, wind, rivers, animals, clouds and stars are interwoven into the subtle body. We will also explore the body of speed and examine how speed runs contrary to mindfulness practice and hastens the consumption of our vital resources. Both inside our bodily systems and at large within the environment, we must reduce burning. Like the slow food movement and the slow building movement, the slow practice movement enables each of us to be present without burning our deepest and most essential fuel. To wean ourselves from speed and reduce global warming, we start in the body via circulatory flow, respiration and hormonal balance. Tias guides a meditation on the bones, blood and breath encouraging all to sustain their vital prana along with the air, waterways, animal species, trees and soils.

ENHANCING YOGA WITH DYNAMIC NEURO-COGNITIVE IMAGERY AND EMBODIED ANATOMICAL FUNCTION - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
Successful yoga requires high levels of awareness, control, and range-of-motion, which are all only available with highly accurate body schema: the dynamic, mental representation (i.e., picture) of the body, and its parts, in relation to the surrounding environment. Mental imagery (i.e., the creation and use of mental images and metaphors) is relevant for addressing and enhancing body, and specifically joint mobility and schema.
Dynamic Neuro-Cognitive Imagery (DNI) is an evidence-based, codified approach to mental imagery. DNI is designed for movement and postural retraining yoga, Pilates, dance and other modalities. This approach focuses on the embodiment of human anatomy and correct biomechanics through mental imagery in order to improve body-related self-awareness as well as motor and non-motor aspects of performance. As such, DNI shows promise as a training approach for facilitating and enhancing pelvic mobility and schema.
In this presentation, participants will:
Learn how DNI training can address and enhance their skills in yoga, specifically flexibility, balance and anatomical embodiment.
Understand key principles of mental imagery and DNI for enhancing bodily-related self-awareness;
Use DNI techniques and tools of anatomical and metaphorical imagery to experience functional mobility with correct biomechanics
Learn specific DNI exercises for improving alignment and stability throughout yoga asanas.
At the end of the workshop, time will be devoted to questions and answers.

EXPERIENCING YOUR INNATE INTERCONNECTED WHOLENESS AND WELL-BEING - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
Nondual meditation is designed to reveal what it is about you that is already and always Whole — that never needs healing, fixing or changing. From this perspective you are not practicing meditation or engaging in healing practices to become whole. You are practicing from your innate and already present Wholeness. You just need to recognize, remember and embody it, as it is already so. With this understanding firmly in place you can then learn to interweave your felt-sense of Wholeness into every circumstance of your daily life, as well as utilize meditation to address what may need healing in the body and mind.
This presentation experientially explores six essential meditative inquires that has been handed down through the ancient teachings of Samkhya-Patañjali Yoga, Advaita Vedanta, and Kashmir Unqualified Nondualism. These inquiries help you recognize and directly experience your essential unchanging and ever-present Wholeness and innate Well-Being that underlies true health, healing, and awakening to your Essential Nature. These simple inquiries enable you to reclaim your inner and outer connectedness and realize your human potential where you feel empowered and in harmony with yourself and the entire cosmos during every step of your journey as a human being.
A Powerpoint Presentation, MP3 meditations, and handouts are included with this presentation.

THE FOUR QUALITIES OF HEART IN ACTION - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
In many of the mystical teachings, the Yogic and Buddhist teachings alike, the heart has four innate qualities. Think of these as natural expressions inherent to the heart when it is in its safest and most open state.
In this one hour program for the Embodied Yoga Summit, we will explore how ancient and modern day teachings show the way to reclaim one's natural heart. Amidst the rubble of a heartbroken world we will use both philosophical teachings and practical approaches to be guided back to the vast and untouched heart.
This program will work both personally and collectively:
Personally: relationship to self, to one's past, and to others.
Collectively: in order to navigate our current world with a soft and available heart.
We will explore:
The use of mental inquiry and contemplative prayer in order to create an observed and questioned mind as a path to the heart
Four qualities as outlined in the Yoga Sutras (the Brahma-Vihara's in Buddhism) to create a map to forgiveness
Understanding the past
Staying present in order to meet for an unsure future

MAKING YOGA MEANINGFUL - YOUR CAREER & PURPOSE - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
There’s nothing wrong with practicing for fitness or aesthetics if that is your choice.
Though when I speak to regular practitioners they are often seeking something more transformational. A lens of practice that impacts things that really matter to them like their relationships with themselves, others, their career, sexuality, money etc.
In this session we will use postures as embodied inquiries using the Embodied Yoga Principles method. To gain psychological self awareness and transferable skills off the mat and into life. More specifically with our relationship to work and purpose.
We will use postures as gateways and archetypes to reveal information about ourselves. Equally using them to practice and create new embodied possibilities to meet life with.
This is an excellent opportunity for regular yoga practitioners to explore a layer underneath what is happening on the mat. Also for teachers that want ideas for leading classes with more depth.
Learning takeaways:
Why embodiment is not simply mindfulness
Deepen your existing yoga practice. A method for using postures as psychological enquiry related to your career and purpose
Tools for every day life to change state when you need it

HEART AND BODY WISDOM: A SOMATIC APPROACH TO TRAUMA-INFORMED YOGA - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
Join Mei Lai Swan, founder of Yoga for Humankind, for an exploration of a profoundly humanizing and somatic approach to trauma-informed yoga. Weaving in practice and wisdom from somatic psychology, dance movement therapy, Body-Mind Centering®, Somatic Experiencing, Embodied FlowTM, eastern spiritual traditions and community/social justice practice, Mei Lai offers a framework and approach that:
Offers an inclusive and somatic approach to trauma-informed yoga for all people that connects heart, body and spirit
Provides yoga facilitators tools for deeply embodying the practice as the foundation for effective trauma-informed facilitation.
Trauma-informed yoga is expanding rapidly around the world with our growing understanding of the prevalence and impacts of trauma, and the benefits of yoga, contemplative and body-based practices in recovery and resilience. Much-needed and powerful, many current trauma-informed yoga approaches draw from traditional hatha yoga and mindfulness practices, and focus on important theoretical, practical and clinical knowledge and skills. But they often miss out on the potential and necessity of a more deeply somatic, heart-based and embodied approach to learning, facilitation and practice. Yoga for Humankind bridges this gap, providing an approach that is founded in embodied relational safety and current trauma theory, while centering heart, spirit and the possibility for deep somatic and embodied inquiry.

UNITY AND HOW TRAUMA INTERFERES - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
In this experiential exploration we will look at ways to discover the unity of the system, including body, mind, and spirit. And at the same time, we see how trauma and overwhelm can interfere. You will learn simple exercises to enhance sensory skills by exploring the musculoskeletal, respiratory, and nervous systems. As you increase body awareness, and breathing capacity, you can change inefficient habits, so that you can move with ease as you practice. I will share with you my ideas about support, suspension, and breath.
In this class you will learn:
How everyday events can lead to trauma.
How to find support from the ground for all poses.
How to find suspension inside.

KEEP IN TOUCH - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
Considered the "The mother of all senses", the sense of touch is one of the first to develop. Touch and movement develop together - as the embryo is moving in the womb her skin is being stimulated by the amniotic fluid, by the wall of the uterus and by the pressure of the mother's internal organs around the womb. When a baby is born, the touch she receives supports emotional bonding with mom and plays a significant role in different physiological functions such as growth, immunity and regulation of the nervous system. Touch continues to be a major part of our physiological and psychological health throughout life.
In these current times of having to keep social distancing for the sake of our health and safety, many of us are lacking opportunities to touch and be touched. The class will explore embodying the sense of touch and various ways we can use our yoga practice to touch and be touched - by ourselves and by the environment around us.
Participants will need a bolster or a heavy pillow, and a shawl/scarf/ little blanket.

EMBODIED SOURCE: AN EXPLORATION OF CONSCIOUSNESS IN FORM - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
In this workshop we will explore the source of yoga as the weaving of the life force energy that keeps our hearts pulsing in our chests, gives us access to pleasure, and allows our bodies to heal when they have been broken with the vastness of the cosmos, illuminated by the light of a thousand stars, and in dynamic relationship with the elements. Through attention to the deepest impulses of our bodies, we will explore the subtle energy currents that give rise to shapes and form asanas. We will allow these sacred postures to imprint upon us the cosmic wisdom we begin to access when in union with our Source.
We will work with stillness and breath, fluid movement, and living postures. We will begin to restore what has been lost in the process of the commodification and colonization of yoga through our direct experience of the living body in practice by listening to the wisdom that runs through our veins and connects us to the wild and unobstructed forces of nature. We will begin with meditation and move fluidly into our physical practice. There will be opportunities to share and integrate the experience. For those of you that wish to be witnessed in your practice we will have the opportunity to be in a virtual circle together learning from one another’s direct embodied experience.
Together we will explore:
Increase receptivity to the energetic benefits of yogic practice
Integrate yogic postures with organic, fluid unwinding of tension patterns in the body
Weave personal direct felt experience with larger energetic fields of resource

EMBODIED RELATIONSHIP: HOW WE PROCESS AND UNDERSTAND OUR EXPERIENCE - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
For the benefits of a nourishing practice to sustain, it needs to connect to everyday life on many levels, particularly the way our embodiment relates with the world; the landscape we are in and people who inhabit it. In this way the practice supports our presence in relationship, helping us discover how we lose presence and how to find it again.
The capacity to dive exclusively inside, or access our inner experiencing is essential, yet ultimately we need to be able to simultaneously be present with what’s happening around us. In our early development as infants, we potentially go through a process that invokes this capacity. Initially spending a lot of time inside we gradually learn to meet the world in more and more complex and mature relationships, growing our skills of expressivity and interaction. What we need may change depending on where we are in this process, to appreciate this its essential to differentiate what’s appropriate in each moment.
A self practice can often be more internally focused, when this becomes a habit it may be misleading and can even become a psychological trap: Our awareness seems to become more sophisticated but our experiencing is not confirmed by the outside, so we may struggle to integrate this new way of being into our life and relationships. When an embodied practice is in relationship with the landscape moment by moment, it supports us in many aspects that have meaning in life; in the way we meet adventures and challenges, and in the choices we make.
This session will introduce some simple tools that support the integration of your existing practice with all relationships, something that is at the core of what may guide you to continue practicing in a profoundly relevant and evolving way.

RELEASING THE HABIT OF SEPARATION: YOGA AND THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
Through the intersection of Restorative Yoga, the Alexander Technique and Zen meditation, we will settle the mind into the body and explore the ways we create separation. With supported yoga postures, and an attitude of inner friendliness and patience, we will methodically cultivate the body’s innate organization. We can release the tension that cuts us into pieces and expand into our natural wholeness.
For this class we will use 2 yoga blocks, 1 yoga strap, 3 blankets, and a chair—any old chair will do. Books, blankets, couch and bed pillows, scarves and ties are creative alternatives for yoga props.

LIBERATION THROUGH THE DIGESTION AND DEVOURING OF SAMSKARA - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
Join Kara-Leah for an in-depth exploration of the nature of samskara and vikalpa, and how they operate within consciousness, based on the teachings of Non-Dual Shaivism Tantra. Discover how samskaras are triggered in our day-to-day interactions with people, and how we can recognise and use this as an opportunity to digest and devour these samskaras. Learn how vikalpas interact with samskaras, and how they often hold samskaras in place. We'll also explore how to respond when our students or clients are experiencing samskaras in classes or sessions with us, and how to support them to digest and devour those samskaras. We will close with a meditative practice designed to support this work.
In this class you will learn:
What samskaras and vikalpas are, and how they interact with each other.
How to recognise when a samsara and/or vikalpa is triggered within the body/mind.
How to digest and devour samskaras, and uninstall vikalpas.

EMBODIED SOUND – BRIDGING BREATH, BODY AND CONSCIOUSNESS - AN EXPERIENTIAL SESSION
Join Mei Lai Swan for an embodied exploration of sound, breath, and consciousness, accessing and freeing the power of your own voice.
Sound – vibration and pulsation – is the foundation of life and creation. Sound has been used for millennia in yoga and many other traditions as one of the most powerful tools for healing, quieting the mind, accessing deeper states of consciousness, insight and awakening.
Riding on the breath, the pulse of life itself, your voice is a bridge between body, heart and mind. It is one of the most powerful instruments for embodied transformation, creation and consciousness. It is a doorway to the heart, and a vehicle for true expression and connection.
In this session we will explore together:
The nature and power of sound and voice, drawing from yoga philosophy, mystic traditions and science;
Embodied voice practices to free your voice, open your heart, and discover the mind-body-sound connection;
Joining our voices together in songs of connection, heart and celebration.
